Welcome to my website. My name is Ben Caira and the artist behind the artwork. I am 31 years old and currently live in Essex, UK. Born in Tottenham, London N17 I've been drawing since my earliest memories, drawing anything I could find around my parents home. By the time I was a teenager I had taught myself to draw just about anything and from there developed the particular interest in portraiture. Now days, the majority of my work is based around producing portraits in a variety of mediums including paint, colour pencil, markers & ink, as well as digital artwork too!
Having grown up in a football mad household and area in the 1990s, my love for football, and more so, my local club Tottenham Hotspur was born! Today, my love for the sport and my club is stronger than ever and have become the main focus of my work. However I’m also inspired to produce artwork featuring animals and regularly take commissions for pet portraits including dogs and horses. I also find myself increasingly inspired by thought provoking conceptual artwork that is a bit more outside the box.
The process is different depending on the particular medium being used but I generally start with a pencil sketched outline. I then build up the picture using layers of graphite, paint or colour until I’m happy the tones are matched. I often use white pencils as a blending tool and like to use acrylic markers to simulate paint drips when doing colour work. I prefer to keep a more lose and suggestive style when it comes to painting.
